A letter was sent home today from Ethan's principal stating that come January 31, she was going to have to move about 3-6 children from each kindergarten class to a new class. It seems 4 of the 5 kindergarten classes are over their cap by about 2-4 children. Before the school year started, each school was able to petition for MORE money to hire MORE teachers to accommodate MORE children. However, due to budget cuts, they were denied. So they did what they had to do. Filled the classes to the brim and then some. The principal stated in her letter that she didn't feel that she had much of a choice considering she couldn't get funding to hire more teachers. So when she was contacted over Christmas break about the abundance of children she assumed that because we are half way into the year, they would grant a waiver to get them through the 09/10 school year and then make adjustments for next year. Boy was she wrong. So she has been told she has to hire new teachers for grades K, 1, 2 and 3 to accommodate the children overflowing in the current classrooms. So what blows my mind is that they were denied funding at the start of the year for hiring new teachers for this very same problem. And now that our children are settled in their routines, made friends, know what is expected of them, NOW they want to shake it up???? Who is running this show????
The letter went on to say that they are asking for parents to volunteer to move to the new class, oh, wait a second, I forgot to mention it is on a completely DIFFERENT TRACK! So we have just gotten used to our current track in's and track out's and they want to change it? If 3-6 parents don't volunteer to move, then the administration is going to have to make that choice for us. You. have. got. to. be. kidding. me! Needless to say I am really bothered by this. And believe it or not, Chris is furious. Well, as furious as Chris can get. :-) He is very much anti government involvement and wishes we didn't have to pay so much in property taxes to go to a school system that we are not 100% behind. And he has a point. Our property taxes go up every year and yet every year the schools are facing budget cuts. I don't get it. Well, I do get it - but in Chris's view point, not mine. And I don't want my blog to become political. Keep it clean folks.
So, to make a long story short, if we are chosen we will have to move to a different track, different teacher and all new friends. Please keep us in your prayers that we will be not be one of the chosen ones. But if we are, that God will make this transition for us as smooth as possible.
And so you know, it makes me nauseous to even think that it may happen.
